I’m in writer mode today, overflowing with inspiration, and making significant progress on some of my writing projects. Some of those projects are personal, and some are professional in nature.

Sign up! You will want This

One of the personal projects is something I’m keeping under wraps. It is something to inspire your regular life, and work life. I’ve shared bits and pieces of it with select folks, and the response was amazing. So I’m continuing on that. If you want to be in the know when it drops, be sure to sign up for notifications on the contact page, or the popup form.

I completed one of two professional items today. I submitted it for publication in a few weeks’ time. Tomorrow, I will submit the other one. If you’re interested in reading those, pop over to my business website, www.devopsadvisors.com, and sign up for that blog.

Writer, For its own Sake

Both sets of efforts will require some devotion, and pulling back from certain activities I had involved myself in. But I feel no regrets about responding to my “calling.” You only live once, as the saying goes.

A writer writes, and I’m doing plenty of it this weekend. It feels good. After many years of mainly devoting my time to my other love, technology, I’m enjoying making a formal practice of being a writer.

Other Reflections

I also found myself deep in thought about which activities to remove from my life, either on a temporary or permanent basis. There’s another saying that goes, “If you want to get something done, ask a busy person.” I’m that proverbial busy person. Sometimes, I have an uncanny ability to achieve a lot in a short amount of time. But that also comes at a price.

During a long conversation with a friend about that and other things, we talked about how letting go is a sign of progress. For example, you may invest a significant portion of time to learn something. At some point, your teacher has to let you go out into the world to get the job done, to tackle real challenges.

To the contrary, we sometimes hang around organizations too long. Some people don’t mind showing up, going through the motions, and enduring another day. Inside, they are apathetic; if you ever get the chance to pierce the bubble of appearance, out comes a stream of disappointments. Is that any way to live? I think not.

I believe everyone should give their best, but it’s good to know when to stop beating your head against a wall. Life comes with a full supply of headaches. No need to go hunting for more.
