Interesting news today…Dropbox has decided to reinvent their business product for the education market.
The new DropboxEducation has yet to be added in a side-by-side comparison with the other versions, but this is a useful development nonetheless.
One of the features I appreciate about the Business edition, is that it allows me to collaborate on folders shared by others. In other words, I can sign in just once, and a folder shared with me by another organization will appear in my list of folders. Dropbox also displays the initials of other individuals who also have permission to access that folder. When the contents of that folder changes, those collaborators are automatically notified. No need to trade links back and forth over email.
The volume pricing of $49 per user per year, is far more appealing for a college student’s budget. Hopefully, this will be a successful expansion, and the business accounts will benefit from an even more attractive price.
